Emirates Orders 40 Boeing Dreamliners Worth US$15 Billion

Emirates unveiled a preliminary order worth 15 billion US dollars for 40 Boeing jets on Sunday. 

The largest Middle East carrier signed a draft deal for the largest version of Boeing's 787 Dreamliner, the 787-10, watched by Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, credited for the launch of Emirates more than 30 years ago.

The deal was the biggest signed at the 2017 Dubai Air Show, so far.

Emirates, however, has yet to decide between engines offered by general electric and Rolls-Royce.

 Sheikh Ahmed said the carrier had chosen the latest version of Boeing's mid sized wide body jet after comparing it with the Airbus A350.

Emirates joined other national carriers such as Malaysia Airlines and Singapore Airlines in choosing Boeing.

Malaysia Airlines Berhad, in September, signed a deal with the American aircraft maker to buy 16 aircraft worth more than 10 billion US dollars while Singapore Airlines agreed to buy 13.8 billion US dollars worth of Boeing jets, last October.
