It is remarkable . The same people who claim to want peace above all seem to either dismiss or outright condemn this peace agreement between Israel and the United Arab Emirates. It should be a day of celebration, and yes, Trump, as much as the supercilious self-loving cognoscenti of the world may dislike him, gets a good deal of credit for helping to bring it together. The UAE does need the best jets it can get, not because it is threatened by Israel, but by Iran, which is right across the slim waters of the Persian Gulf. Maintaining Israel’s qualitative edge in this regard has always been U.S. policy, and it always has worked that way, in particular because Israel is so sophisticated it tailors the high tech gear given to it by the U.S. to make it even more effective for Israel’s unique needs. All told, this has been quite successful: Peace is enhanced by another Arab nation coming to terms with Israel’s obvious legitimate existence, enhanced security for a small Gulf nation, and a successful increase in the American geo-strategic position. Iran loses, and the Palestinians remain the same, but certainly not damaged. Don’t believe the naysayers, the cognoscenti in academia and the think tanks have a marked record of getting things wrong in this region, and almost everywhere — remember that the power-intellects of Arthur Schlesinger Jr. and John Kenneth Galbraith insisted It is that the Soviet Union was economically strong and militarily powerful, only for it to collapse a few years after their rave approval.
